I taught a class the other day, the intention was to embrace the wiggle, and let go of the desire for perfection. The theme of the class was balance, something that can be a struggle for many people. Whether that is the physical aspect of balance, be that standing on one leg, or balancing on your hands, or mental and emotional aspects.
It is easy to try and avoid the wiggle, and try to be ridged, almost rock like. When we do that there is a tightening of our mind and body. However, when embrace the wiggle our experience is different. I spoke with one of the students after and they talked about how in a standing balance they were able to soften their standing leg a little and this allowed them to balance easier. They still wobbled and moved around but they were able to balance better.
This was an example of the practical application on the mat, but it can be applied off the mat. Life will always throw curveballs our way. It can be easy to try and fight to keep the status quo, and not left this curveball throw us off balance, but what if we allow the wiggle? What if we allow ourselves to readjust to the change? If we explore wiggle and be curious about what comes from it.
You could apply this to anything, say you have been in a career for a while, and things change in a way that you are no longer satisfied. Exploring the wiggle could be to consider a career change, and embracing the uncomfortable feeling of something new and out of your comfort zone.
Maybe you like to have everything planned to the minute, what if you gave yourself space and time. You might end up doing something different, you might have an unexpected experience.
This post is an invitation to explore the wiggle next time you encounter change.
